Vork en mes is gevestigd dichtbij Hoofddorp op een bijzondere locatie aan het water in het Haarlemse bos. Hierdoor waan je jezelf direct even in een andere wereld en ben je er echt even tussenuit. Het gebouw van dit restaurant is bovendien een echte eye-catcher. Kortom een bijzonder sfeervolle locatie voor het restaurant.

Vork & Mes is als enige Nederlandse restaurant nog in de race samen met twaalf buitenlandse kandidaten. De wedstrijd, met als doel chef-koks meer met groenten te laten werken, is een initiatief van Belgische groentekok Frank Fol en GaultMillau. Begin oktober wordt bij de presentatie van de GaultMillaugids voor 2010 de winnaar bekend gemaakt.

Eind van dit jaar stopt Jonathan Karpathos met zijn restaurant 'Vork en mes' in het Haarlemmermeerse Bos in Hoofddorp. Dat meldt de topkok in een Facebook bericht. Karpathos, inmiddels 40, startte 10 jaar geleden met het restaurant in het voormalige Haarlemmermeer paviljoen op de Floriade in de polder. D kok specialiseerde zich in gerechten.

All biological food, fresh from their own graden. Tasty dishes, quite different from most places. Lovely terrace overlooking the lake, so best on a sunny/warm day. It looks a bit run down after all this years, but still a nice and quiet hideway in the old Floriade park. Organic, modern food with lots of vegetarian options.

I found the food at Vork & Mes (in English: Fork & Knife) experimental. The restaurant promotes and observes the farm to table concept by growing its own herbs and some of the seasonal vegetables served on the menu. The design of the restaurant is futuristic which is very entertaining. It is a floating pavilion with ample space for outdoor seating.
